RTK Environmental Announces 2025 Scholarship Winner
Brooklyn Native Meriam Montaser Recognized for Her Commitment to Environmental Science and Public Health
Stamford, CT – August 14, 2025 – RTK Environmental has named Meriam Montaser of Brooklyn, NY as the 2025 scholarship winner.
Meriam’s deep passion for understanding how environmental conditions impact public health, and her commitment to bringing solutions to underserved communities, set her apart in a highly competitive pool of applicants for the $1,500 scholarship.
About Meriam
An incoming freshman at St. John’s University, Meriam’s interest in environmental science grew from personal experiences advocating for her family. From translating for her mother at medical appointments to noticing the effects of poor air quality, limited green space, and lead concerns in her neighborhood, she became aware of how environmental conditions shape community health.
Her Internship Experience
During her internship at Hanan Pediatrics, Meriam observed the connections between environmental neglect and chronic health issues in children.
She further explored these issues in a capstone project, creating an educational campaign on chronic disease prevention in underrepresented communities and highlighting the impact of pollution, food deserts, and unsafe housing.
“Meriam’s passion for addressing the intersection of environmental science and public health is truly inspiring,” said Robert Weitz, Principal and Founder of RTK, who launched the RTK Scholars Program in 2015.
“We are proud to support her vision of developing sustainable, equitable solutions that improve the health and well-being of vulnerable communities.”
The RTK Scholars Program has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships in recent years. Applications for the 2026 award are now open through May 31, 2026.
