RTK Environmental Announces 2024 Scholarship Winner: Astoria, Queens-Native Amara Chowdhury Tops Large Applicant Pool with Her Strong Interest in Environmental Science and Medicine

RTK Environmental has chosen Amara Chowdhury of Astoria Queens, NY as the 2024 scholarship winner. Amara has always had a deep-seated interest in environmental science, and her passion for exploring how environmental factors – such as pollution and climate change – impact human health played a crucial role in her winning.

A junior at New York University, she is excelling in chemistry and biology with a strong interest in environmental science, which helped her rise to the top of a highly competitive pool of applicants who competed for the $1,500 scholarship from RTK Environmental, a leading New York tri-state environmental testing company, who believes in giving back to the community through fostering environmental and scientific study.

“Amara’s dedication to exploring the intersection of environmental science and medicine is truly inspiring,” noted Robert Weitz, Principal and Founder of RTK, who launched the RTK Scholars Program in 2015. “RTK is immensely proud to support and entrust the future to passionate individuals like her, who will be instrumental in spurring future developments in engineering, technology and life sciences, as well as scientific advancement in the field of environmental inspection. Our scholarship program stimulates greater interest in these fields and helps these students succeed.”

Chowdhury expressed her gratitude for the scholarship and said, “This scholarship not only fuels my educational journey but also brings me one step closer to making a positive impact in the world.”

The RTK Scholars Program has granted more than $20,000 in scholarships in recent years. Applications for the 2025 award are now open through May 31, 2025. Applicants must be enrolled in New York metro-area accredited schools, and be either a high school senior, or college freshman, sophomore, or junior.
