How is Asbestos Testing Done?

Asbestos testing is performed for many reasons. Whether it’s prior to demolition, before the purchase of a new home, embarking on a renovation, or any one of a number of other reasons, you’ll need to identify whether you will be disturbing asbestos. If asbestos is disturbed without proper containment, your health is at great risk.

The first step to protecting your health and removing asbestos from your home is to call RTK for environmental testing. A designated client service relationship expert will speak with you about your potential issue and guide you to the right solution. We will be with you every step of the way.

Where is Asbestos Found?

Asbestos can be found in multiple places in the home, including pipe insulation, wall and ceiling materials, tiles, roofing materials, boilers, caulk, and dozens of other common building materials. Therefore, it is very important to have independent testing performed before starting any disturbance of suspect materials. By contacting RTK, you can ensure that sampling has been performed properly.

Asbestos Testing Methods

Don’t try to test for asbestos on your own. It is very dangerous and is illegal in many places. The first step you should take is to contact a licensed and insured asbestos specialist. When the RTK inspector arrives, they will inspect your home and identify areas where asbestos may be present. We then take a sample about the size of a quarter, place it in an appropriate container, and send it to our independent, accredited laboratory for analysis.

Asbestos Air Samples

Asbestos in air samples are taken to provide clearance and completion of a project following proper removal of asbestos or, if improper removal has occurred, can identify if fibers have been released into the air at unacceptable levels. As with bulk samples, these samples are placed in a proper container and sent to our independent laboratory for analysis.

Once testing is complete and results have come back from the lab, RTK analyzes the findings and creates a customized report. We then call you with verbal results, sometimes as soon as next day. The report is then emailed to you. From start to finish, we’ve got your back.
